Standing high above the ancient wool town of Bradford-on-Avon, the stump of Bradford's former windmill serves as a stark reminder of the perils of being a 19th Century entrepreneur. Built in 1806 and defunct by 1817, it fell victim to the depression which followed the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Bradford survived the depression and remains little changed, still a shy little sister to brazen Bath with her wanton ways, However give her a little attention and she will reveal her charms to those with time to explore her on foot.

The original four storey tower, constructed of mellow dressed cotswold stone, has three foot thick walls under a conical stone tiled roof and has recently given birth to a two storey towerlet which contains the conical roofed Damsel Room. The mill is furnished with stripped pine and decorated with interesting finds from around the world as well as masses of travel books and guides.

As befits the founders of Distinctly Different, great efforts have been made to ensure a memorable stay. The three bedrooms named after obscure and rather technical parts of a working windmill, Fantail, Great Spur and Damsel, each has an unusual bed - round, water and gothic iron respectively. Breakfasts cater for all tastes from healthy vegetarian to unhealthy but just as happy carnivores, with such delights as "Passionate Pancakes", "Blueberry Waffles" and "Devilled Mushrooms". Some bedrooms have whirlpool or spa baths but for hedonists the ultimate thrill is a trip to Bath with its Thermae Spa using Baths thermal waters, a sure-fire cure for Gout and Syphillis, at least it was in Georgian times!
